Welcome to Urithi ("we," "us," "our," or "Urithi"). Urithi is a language learning application that helps users learn and practice languages, including through lessons, exercises, and (if applicable) speech-based practice.
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and related services (collectively, the "App"). Please read this policy carefully. By using the App, you agree to the practices described here.

Urithi is developed and operated by Fredrick Mokua Jaoko, an individual developer based in Nairobi, Kenya.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide Directly
- Account information: Name, email address, username, password, date of birth, and profile picture (if you choose to upload one).
- Learning preferences: Target language(s), native language, proficiency level, learning goals, and course selections.
- Payment information: If you purchase a subscription or in-app content, our payment processor collects billing details. We do not store full payment card numbers on our own servers.
- Communications: Information you provide when you contact customer support, respond to surveys, or participate in community features (e.g., forums, chat, comments).
- User-generated content: Text you write in exercises, journal entries, or community posts.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Usage data: Lessons completed, exercises attempted, scores, streaks, time spent in the App, and features used.
- Device information: Device type, operating system, unique device identifiers, IP address, mobile network information, and app version.
- Log data: Crash reports, diagnostic logs, and error reports.
- Cookies and similar technologies: We (and third parties acting on our behalf) may use cookies, SDKs, and similar tracking technologies to remember preferences and understand how the App is used. See Section 8 (Cookies and Tracking) below.
2.3 Information from Third Parties
- If you sign in using a third-party account (e.g., Google, Apple, Facebook), we receive basic profile information from that provider as permitted by your settings with them.
- Analytics and advertising partners may provide us with aggregated or device-level data (see Section 4).
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain the App and its learning features
- Personalize your learning path, recommend content, and track progress
- Process payments and manage subscriptions
- Communicate with you, including sending service updates, reminders, and (with consent, where required) marketing messages
- Monitor and analyze usage trends to improve the App
- Detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents
- Comply with legal obligations
4. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with:
- Service providers: Hosting providers, analytics services (we use PostHog), customer support tools, and payment processors, who process data on our behalf under contractual confidentiality and data-protection obligations.
- Third-party sign-in providers: Where you choose to log in via Google, Apple, or similar services.
- Legal and safety reasons: If required by law, subpoena, or legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Urithi, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
- With your consent: For any other purpose disclosed to you at the time we collect the information.
5. Children's Privacy
Urithi is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the relevant age of digital consent in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under that age. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child without verified parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information. 6. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights regarding your personal information:
- Access – request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correction – request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
- Deletion – request deletion of your personal data
- Portability – request your data in a portable format
- Restriction/Objection – object to or restrict certain processing
- Withdraw consent – where processing is based on consent (e.g., marketing communications)
- Opt out of sale/sharing – (California residents) we do not sell personal information, but you may opt out of certain data sharing for advertising purposes if applicable

We will respond and process your request within the timeframe required by applicable law (e.g., 30 days under GDPR, 45 days under CCPA).
EU/UK/EEA users: Our legal bases for processing include performance of a contract, consent, legitimate interests, and legal obligation. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
California users: You have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), including the right to know, delete, correct, and opt out of certain data sharing. We do not discriminate against users who exercise these rights.
7. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as necessary to provide the App's services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Specifically:
- Account data is retained while your account is active and for 12 months after deletion, unless a shorter or longer period is required by law.
- Usage and analytics data may be retained in aggregated or anonymized form indefinitely.
You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time (see Section 6).
8. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
We and our partners may use cookies, mobile SDKs, pixels, and similar technologies to:

Where we transfer personal data from the EEA/UK to countries without an adequacy decision, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
